Our vision

Débora Waldman, Architect and Creator of Connections

« To give classical music a new breath, so that it may become dialogue and resonance between people—this is the mission I have set for myself. »

Débora Waldman’s artistic journey is guided by a profound commitment to excellence and a strong desire to reimagine the concert experience. Born in Brazil, she grew up in Israel and Argentina before settling in Paris to further her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP). It was there that she became assistant to Kurt Masur at Orchestre National de France between 2006 and 2009.

Recognized for her talent—named ADAMI Conductor Talent in 2008 and awarded a distinction by the Simone and Cino Del Duca Foundation in 2011—she now conducts numerous orchestras in France and internationally.

In order to exercise her artistic freedom fully, from the conception of projects to the choice of performers, she founded and continues to develop the Orchestre Idomeneo. Her approach as an interpreter is that of an “architect and archeologist,” seeking out the meaning of musical motifs in order to construct an innovative artistic discourse, while remaining faithful to the score. This deep understanding of the evolution of musical language is, in her view, the key to a truly successful interpretation.

It is with great joy that I agreed to contribute to the development of the Idomeneo Orchestra by taking on the presidency of the association that supports it.

In a rich and demanding musical landscape, ensembles that manage to establish a genuine identity are rare. Idomeneo is among those that are gradually carving out their own path, through their meticulous work on styles, their attention to orchestral timbres, and an approach to the repertoire that combines rigor, curiosity, and enthusiasm. Although the orchestra plays on modern instruments, its aesthetic is rooted in the research and interpretive innovations that have profoundly transformed the approach to Baroque and Classical repertoires over the past several decades. From this convergence emerges a sonic palette that is at once precise, vibrant, and thoroughly contemporary.

This identity owes much to Débora Waldman. I was struck by her artistic vision, her infectious energy, and her ability to bring together musicians, partners, and audiences around an ambitious project. Her approach, attentive to the works as much as to those who perform and listen to them, allows the orchestra to express a unique voice.

Music only truly comes to life when it connects with its listeners. I hope you will soon have the opportunity to experience the Idomeneo Orchestra in concert and share in that ever-renewed emotion that only a live performance can sometimes evoke.
